Fire Emblem: Past and Future Bonds (Private)

"Okay, Mama..." Severa replied, glad that the conversation could just flow naturally without it becoming anything degrading for her... which was somewhat ironic unknown to her because she was doing something very babyish just minutes ago.

"Um... I... dunno, really. Can't think of anything," Severa replied, genuinely not being able to think of anything herself. "Is there, uh... anything you like doing in your own free time?"

Well, most of Cordelia's favorite physically-based activities were out as a response to her daughter's question. She didn't want to remind her that she coudn't jog or do combat exercises in her current, injured state. Also, one of her other favorite leisure activities was flying on her pegasus, but it was probably best to avoid anything involving Severa riding pegasuses for the time being... What else was there?

"Well, I do love a good book..." The woman answered, the first non-physical based thing she enjoyed that she could think of coming to mind. But what would Severa like to read, or have read to her? She doubted any stories would satisfy her...But what about non-fiction? As a matter of fact...

"Sweetie...where you came from...Did you ever get a chance to really learn any history before things got really bad?" Cordelia inquired.

Personally, the girl didn't like reading books, but that was mostly due to the fact that she wasn't necessarily educated. She was only doing basic schooling by the time her mother was killed in her original timeline, and from that point, Severa learned everything else about the world on her own through fighting and conflict rather than sitting down and having the opportunity to read up.
She thought people that read books as a hobby were "lame", but she didn't want to bare that news toward her mother and make the situation more awkward. So, she'd go along with it.

"Well... no, not really... can't say I know much about how life was before I was born..." Severa honestly replied.

The motherly knight raised an eyebrow. "Really? You poor thing..." She replied, feeling genuinely sorry for Severa. If this was truely the case, the girl likely knew little more than genocide and bloodshed...No wonder she was so grouchy. "Well, if that's the case, I think I know just the things to read..."

Then, after suddenly moving the teenager into a cradling postion in her arms, Cordelia stood up and carried the diapered girl over to the master bedroom, setting her down on her bed before walking over to her bookshelf. "This country has such a fascinating history, and has had more heroes and incredible figures than can be counted. I think you would really enjoy learning about it dear..."

"It's okay... I- EEP!" Severa squeaked as she was cradled and lifted up into her mother's arms, then watching as she was carried into her bedroom. Severa blinked as she watched the woman go through her books on her tall, long bookshelf. It was no wonder she was held in such high regard; a bookworm with great intelligence, but also a fierce and noble warrior respected by all who encountered her. Just thinking about it started to make Severa sick... and she was now getting lost in that train-of-thought as she failed to respond to Cordelia while temporarily looking away and not moving.

As Cordelia was facing her books, she didn't see the less than pleasant emotions Severa was feeling. Once again, she had no idea about the inferiority complex her daughter had towards her. So, she simply skimmed the history books she possessed before finding one that Severa might find interesting.
"Ah, well I guess if we want to start at the beginning, we might as well start with Marth; the first real exalt of this land. That name should sound familiar sweetie; remember the identity Lucina took on at first when she came back to this time? This was the man she was impersonating." The woman explained, taking a book bound in blue and walking back to the bed. She then sat down next to the diapered girl, half tempted to lay her across her lap like she had been while they finished the movie.

Once the woman started, Severa temporarily buried whatever jealousy she felt for her mother and listened to what he had to say, wanting to at least give the impression that she was listening. "Hm? Oh, yeah. That much I knew. Blue hair, noble, her and Chrom are descendants, blah blah blah," Severa replied, not sounding that enthused.

The Crimson-haired woman chuckled. "Well, did you also know that he was orphaned and exiled from his kingdom back when he was only 16? Or about his entire epic quest to find the Fire Emblem and the Falchion to allow him to take revenge on his father's killer and reclaim his rightful position as prince?" She asked coyly, knowing Severa loved whenever war or adventure were brought up in a subject.

Severa knew very little about the first exalt aside from Chrom and Lucina's relation to him and the mystique that apparently was associated with his name. However, upon hearing the prospect of adventure in this, Severa was now hooked. "I... didn't know that..." Severa replied, sounding a little more interested.

Cordelia smiled, knowing full well she had gotten Severa's attention. "And that's just the beginning of the story. Let me tell you more..." She said, getting cozy next to her child on the bed and opening up the book in her lap.

For the next hour, the woman began to read the grand history of Altea to the girl beside her; telling her the stories and adventures of the hero-king Marth and his band of incredible comrades, not that different than the shepherds themselves. History had become legend, and it seemed like each tale was more fascinating than the last.

As time went by, Cordelia found herself gently holding Severa around the waist to cuddle her a little, just using her other hand to turn the pages. This was an incredibly relaxing experience...
