The entire day passed without incident... for Craig. He saw two times where the police were busting a person who may or may not have a Conduit gene or be affiliated with a carrier. It made him think about what his inevitable fate might be if the truth of his encounter with the frightened girl in rags came to light. A part of him knew that Ginger was right, that not all of these "bio-terrorists", as she so delicately termed them, were not to be trusted. He, however, knew that there were some out there with good in them, some who would choose to use their power with responsibility and good intentions. The young man could feel that this girl was one of those types as he pondered on a park bench whilst overlooking a lake glistening from the bright lights of an otherwise dark city...

The park was dead silent aside from the usual natural sounds of birds and passing cars, several belonging the the heavy armored vehicles of the government troops. There was never a day Craig saw at least one of them, the troops never resting to seize control of every last Conduit in the city. Although every news report about captured Conduits were always negative, it was obvious that the stories were always altered to purposely make the public fear Conduits. Perhaps some of the attacks were because they had no other choice. In was unjust to attack the public, of course, but if people kept driving them over the edge, it would continue.
As the minutes past, Craig suddenly saw someone slowly sit beside him. Looking over, it was the same girl as before. She was much more calm than their first encounter, but she was still shaking in nervousness. She did her best to not look at Craig, avoiding eye contact by purposely brushing her short hair in front of her face. What seems like a quiet encounter was soon broken as the girl actually spoke up: "Why...didn't you hurt me?"

Craig wouldn't have minded having someone sit beside him, even if it was this late... but turning around and seeing who the individual was made him jump a little, though he quickly regained his composure. It wasn't that he was scared, but that he was just thinking about her at this particular moment as she took her place on the opposite side of the bench.
What made Craig calm down even more was notice how nervous the slightly-shorter girl was. She looked downright afraid, trying to hang her head down and keep her hair in front of her eyes to keep him from looking into her eyes, and vice versa. "Well... for one... I really couldn't hurt you if I tried... nor would I want to." Craig replied, not wanting to disturb her or make her any more nervous as he stayed put. "I can tell you don't deserve it... from anyone."

"But...I'm a monster," the girl replied, her voice instantly choking up from her last word. "My own parents tried to turn me in the second they learned I had this stupid disease-of-a-gene. Everyone else wanted me dead too...but not you..."
The girl looked out at the lake, examining it's beauty as the sun currently hit it in just the right way. Her eyes began to glisten like the water as tears began to form. "Just one month...just one...that's how long my life has been ruined. I don't even know how to control it. All I can do is run..."

The last words the girl spoke before turning to the glistening lake really resonated with the boy:
"But not you..."
Craig felt a little moved by this, though not necessarily in a positive way. This just gave him reason to pity her more, as she was seen as nothing but a monster by her peers who rejected her and forced her into a life of running and uncertainty.
Seeing the girl start to cry was ripping the boy apart inside... seeing those eyes again, more open and so full of pain.
Craig had absolutely no idea what compelled him to do this, but as she started softly crying, he gently grasped one of her extended hands with both of his. Instead of forceful, he held it gently like a delicate, precious gift...
"You're not a freak. You're different, sure... but I don't see any bad in you. Not at all. I always tell to my friend that even if the worst in humanity presents itself, there's always some good still in there somewhere..." He replied softly, giving the girl a smile as he spoke to her tenderly.

Although keeping their hands connected for a while, the girl soon pulled it away and placed it in her lap. She then looked down at the ground once again, her tears now dripping down her face. "I don't even know you, so why are you being this kind? I could kill you by accident without even moving, and still you...I don't know what I thought to gain from talking to you. I just felt I needed to. If I stay any longer-"
A vehicle suddenly screeched to a halt behind the two, followed by orders being shouted. Quickly looking behind them, they saw troops running towards them. When close enough, they flashed lights at them and pointed their guns straight at them, intended to fire at any wrong move. The commanding officer soon yelled, "You are both under arrest for suspected bio-terrorist involvements and activities. We have the right to shoot and kill for the safety of the city of you do not do as you're told."
Emma suddenly grabbed Craig and ran, despite the clear danger of doing so. Before they even started to move, the troops were already opening fire on the two. To Craig's amazement, however, was witnessing the water from the lake suddenly create a small some around them as they ran. Each bullet was stopped in its tracks as they deleted off of tue shield. It was clear that the girl had done this, but she was simply running, with no clear destination aside from far away from the attacking soldiers.

Craig allowed the girl to do as she wished, easing his hands away as she moved away from his grasp. He was ready to continue talking to her and help make her feel a twinge better before bright lights flashed their way, guns cocked and orders shouted. Craig was terrified, but this escalated to full-on adrenaline as Emma grabbed his hand and ran off with him, her water powers shielding them from the bullets and preventing the officers from passing.
"Holy shit, that was too close!" Craig replied, fairly confident that they were safe as they took refuge in a dark, abandoned alley. Assured by that, he took a moment to breathe and then check the girl to see if she was injured, as he didn't have a scratch on him due to her saving him. "Are you okay?"

Emma was still panicking about the troops trying to follow them; they were known not to give up easily.
"N-no! What have I done!?" Emma yelped in fear and frustration. "Now they're going to he chasing you now, just because I talked to you! This is so fucking stupid! It's all my fault!"

At this point, Craig grabbed the girl's upper arms, starting to shake some sense into her. "Calm down, it's alright! Look, at the very least, they'd have a harder time looking through every home and every building in the city. I'm not going to leave you out here... so now it's my turn." Without warning, Craig interlocked his hand with the girl's, beginning to run through the alleyway and near the end of the street. Conveniently enough, the direction she ran with him with happened to be the way that he came from, and they had ran a considerable distance which happened to be close to his apartment now.

The girl was confused and scared at the same time; she couldn't stop looking behind them, as she could year the troops trying to search for them. She also wanted to know where they were going. Hopefully, it truly was to safety.
