Joel gasp as he woke up from a dream and was that night that he lost his daughter and it been 20 years since he lost her.
He get up from bed and hears knocking at his door. "I'm coming" Joel said not in a mode and could guess to who was at his door. He open it and sigh as he knew it. It was Tess a woman he meet some time ago. He let's her in and saw she pours a drink and offered him one and said "no" and then hears she had something good but only asked. "Where were you Tess?"

"We had a drop to make. Trading pills." Tess answered in contention, she had been working, why was Joel pissed with her. "I earned a months worth of ration cards. Tess had also earned herself a gash on her face. People often assumed Joel was the muscle and Tess was the brains but the truth was Joel was about ten years older than her. He was wiser... Or at least more cautious.

Tess downed the liqueur she had poured as Joel dabbed st her wound with an alcohol doused rag. It stung, so Tess didn't speak for a moment, she planned her next words, tried to arrange her statement in a way which coax Joel into action and doing what she wanted. Really the cut on her head had probably done most of the work for her, a blessing in disguise.

"I got attacked by some no bodies." She had decided to go for an indirect approach. It was Joel who correctly assumed Robert, a rival smuggler in the Boston QZ.

"Yeah, well Robert shouldn't have sent two morons after me because now I know where he's hiding out. Pay back time Joel, we can take the weapons he owes us."

He listened to what she said. "Okay I'm ready" Joel said and they left the building and look around for how there is patrols everywhere and knew they have to cross town and show the guard at the road block his papers and tell him that he got the day off until there was an explosion and the guard tell us to go now and another guard said firefly's and we both run to a building next to us and head in and it seems like we might have to take the secret path.

The QZ was regularly patrolled and policed by the military. It was hardly surprising, Tess could remember the same was true of refugee camps back when she had been a college student, the difference of course was that in the QZ the military police were a lot more heavy handed, especially with the recent Fireflies insurgency.

"Alright Texas, after you." Tess drawls as Joel leads the way through the apartment building to where a wall has been tunneled through and disguised with a cabinet. Tess always wondered what the occupant/sentry did for heating in the winter given he had a great big hole in his home. She offered him a couple of ration tokens for his silence before helping Joel push the cabinet out of the way and exiting to the backstreets.

He turns on some light and went over to a work bench and grabs his stuff and his gun and walk open a door and walk outside and saw the ladder has been moved and look for it and found it and set it up.

"I wonder who moved the ladder?" Tess asked as she climbed the rungs and up into the exposed first story of an abandoned house. Tess's question was more about caution than curiosity. Presumably rival smugglers used this route, maybe even Robert's men.
