The latest in diaper technology: One day a jellyfish will be hugging your butt ...
One day a jellyfish will be hugging your butt instead of your current diaper! A new technology is being developed to combine the processed flesh of the World's over-populated, poisonous (To humans) jellyfish along with nanotech materials, to form a compound called "Hydromash" which will be used to create a super absorbent, 30-day biodegradable diaper that absorbs twice as much liquid as the current disposable, synthetic gel-based diapers currently available on the consumer market (For full details, see) -> http://www.theneweconomy.com/home/co...diaper-dilemma. Cine’al, an Israeli nanotechnology start-up company, has plans to manufacture the jellyfish diapers in parts of Korea and in South Carolina where there are jellyfish collection sites (For more information, see) -> http://www.greenprophet.com/2014/04/...under-30-days/ Read the details in the two websites referenced above and discuss your thoughts on the subject!
What's next? Inkling based diapers that will hold your messy "Splatoons"?
Location: In a kennel, in a mansion, in a country.

huh, an interesting proposal, but not strange, I knew jellyfish had no bones in their bodies, but I have never once thought of them as diaper material. but with all the jellies washing up dead on beaches it's not surprising that someone would find a use for them, I mean, what's next, mittens made from t he hair of a mammoth or mastadon?
LOL! I'm not too sure about the absorbancy of squid flesh, A5URA. But it sure is tasty when grilled~!

Yeah, the articles say that jellyfish have been know to sting swimmers at beaches so whether dead or alive, they are considered pests, SteamPanzer. And unlike squids, they are not edible by humans. So IMHO, I think that the fact that they can now be of some use to the human race is actually positive, as long as measures are in place to prevent "over fishing" them into extinction.

You'd need a time machine for that since the only remaining specimens are now in museums. It would be prohibitively expensive to manufacture mammoth or mastodon mittens now.
A little bit off topic but I have heard of sponges (Another sea critter) being used as diaper material before the 1980s but cannot find any evidence (Pictures or articles) about them other than a brief mention in Wikipedia -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supera...olymer#History Whenever I search for "sponge diaper", most of the results returned are pictures or articles about AIO cloth diapers with SpongeBob Squarepants printed on the cover part. The other results are for baby sponges for use in diaper change tables. I would imagine that a vintage sponge diaper would have to be covered with rubber or vinyl pants (A big no no nowadays!). It would be nice if someone who is familiar with this type of vintage diaper would kindly enlighten us with some information (Maybe even provide a picture or two?). Thanks!
personally i am not really a fan of this kind of stuff, i know that jellyfish are considered a pest, but when this really becomes popular. not only fish will be overfished, jellyfish too. is that really eco-friendly. Eco-friendly really means that it isn't harmful to the biosphere (the surroundings) that means wasteful friendly but animal friendly too.
You raise a good point, shuttleshooter. I would think that the people who will actually "collect" the jellyfish at the collection sites will have measures to ensure that only jellyfish (Or the least amount of marine life that are not jellyfish) are caught (Fish do not make good diaper material ). It would be sort of like "Dolphin safe" tuna fishing with the industry policing itself (If the industry fails to police itself, peeps will find out and boycott the product manufacturers). Right now there is an over-population of jellyfish, so the argument can be made that it is better to "Thin the herd" then to let all of the jellyfish starve due to the lack of sufficient food for them to eat because of their sheer numbers. And others can also argue that when it comes to making a choice between benefiting humans or animals, humans should come first.
It's really intresting and I don't mind it. If it eco-friendly to the world and people What harm would it be. I mean the world needs alot more eco-friendly stuff and the thought of a inkling diaper would be nice. Just hope they don't change the desing of the diapers, but I doute it XD

Technically it is the flesh of jellyfish, not squid, that is going to be used as the main ingredient for the diaper material, Cloud D. I was just joking that Inklings (squids) were going to be used next after the jellyfish. Squids already serve a purpose for humans as food. So in the future, you may eat a squid and a jellyfish may hold the undigested parts of the squid when you poop it out!
The articles do not allude to any change in the design of diapers - Only the absorbent material inside them is going to change from chemical absorbent gel, which takes 500 years to bio-degrade (No shit! Pun intended, LOL! Read the articles in detail, peeps!), to Hydromash (A compund of jellyfish flesh and nanotech materials) which takes only 30 days to bio-degrade.
I also doubt that the design of diapers could change significantly from what they are now, a modified hourglass shape with the top (Or front) part being narrower and the bottom (Or back) part being wider. It has evolved from the unorthodox (By today's standards) rhombic (Yes, like a rhombus) shape going back to 1590 (See here), to the bulky rectangular shape seen in the late 1950s to the late 1970s, to the bulky hourglass shape developed in the early 80s, to the trim fitting, modified hourglass shape currently in use. An evolution in design would probably take decade(s) to happen. What could possibly be next? Thong shaped diapers (Click below at your own risk)? Acck!
I'm sure that most peeps would not like a jellyfish hugging and stinging their butt simultaneously, Buggy285. Though, maybe those peeps that are into BDSM would enjoy it! Fortunately, the new advanced diapers will only use the flesh of the jellyfish combined with nanotech materials, so there's no risk of being stung while wearing the new technology diaper.
