Rise of the Reptiles (Private)

Humanity is practically no more. After a brutal war in the early 2030´s, coupled by a series of outbreaks, humanity had dwindled. Where once there were billions, only a few thousand remain. The radiation from nuclear weaponry resurrection instinct species, such as dinosaurs, while giving them and a few others enhanced intelligence. Now, humans, dinosaurs, and birds must survive in this new world, whether it be from the mutants, roving raider clans, or Mother Nature.

Out in remnants of California's once lush San Joaquin Valley, a group of mixed species survivors had turned one of the remaining megafarms into a shanty town.

Redcrest, a young Utahraptor and his Human companion had decided to go hunt for meat. They were out in what was once a cattle ranch. Indeed, the war had reverted it back to grasslands. The only thing that hinted at its former life was a decrepit barn.

Back at the shantytown, a Human was busy working in the nursery. A few Human children played with the Avian and Reptilian hatchlings.

She smiled as a Human boy and a Peregrine Falcon hatchling began playing tag with each other.

The human traveling with the Utahraptor was a man by the name of Jacen Mercer. He was in his mid twenties, with dark brown hair, and a thin beard. His eyes were the color of mist on in the early winter morning. He wore a thin, dark brown jacket, fingerless gloves, an old pair of jeans, some old work boots, and a faded white T-Shirt. A backpack was slung on his back, a skullcap kept his head warm. In his hands was a pump action shotgun. ¨See anything yet?¨ he asked, entering the barn.

A lean Compsognathus was one of the few others left behind. He had named himself Leon. He wore just a simple bomber jacket, and a diaper. The wars and diseases that had led to the rise of his kind, had also affected the bladder and bowel control of birds, reptiles, and humans alike. One of his relatives had co founded a safe haven at an old correction facility to the east.

Redcrest sniffed the air. He snuffled as he detected the faint scent of cattle. "Cows that way," he said, pointing to the barn. His crest flared in anticipation of the hunt.

His claws scraped the hardened dirt of the ground as the smell got stronger the closer he approached.

The woman in the nursery turned around and saw Leon. The bomber jacket the Compsognathus wore was actually designed for a Human toddler due to his small size but it fit him perfectly.

"Leon," she said. "Is there something you need?"

¨How many?¨ Jacen asked, following close behind. They were seperated from the cattle by a door. ¨All right then, you wanna do the honors, Red?¨ he asked, gesturing to the door. He pumped his shotgun, just in case. ¨Hopefully there´s enough for all of us.¨ he chuckled. ¨I could barbeque them or whatever when we get back.¨ he gestured to the small coolers attached to his backpack, and Redcrest´s. ¨Or at least enough to fit the two coolers.¨ he smiled

¨Just wanted to see how you´re doing.¨ Leon said. ¨How are the younglings doing?¨ he asked, his eyes glancing at each of them.

Maia sighed and rubbed Leon's head. "They're doing great. Though I do worry about what it will be like for them in the future." Her eyes traveled to the Compsagnathus's diaper and she chuckled. "I have to admit, I'm still getting used to seeing dinosaurs, reptiles and birds in diapers."

"Speaking of which," Maia continued. "I need to go wash the diapers and gather some firewood."

Redcrest chittered and peered through the dusty window. He scraped his claws together and gently nosed the door open.

Almost immediately, the cows bolted upon catching his scent. He spied an older cow thst had lagged behind the back. He leapt onto its back and snapped his footclaws forward, digging into its skin. He held on with his foreclaws as the cow tried to buck him off. He felt his diaper snag on something but he ignored it as he bent down and but through the cow's spine.

He detached himself from the cow. The Utahraptor then realized his soiled diaper was hanging in shreds from a fence post.

¨Wow, that was impressive.¨ Jacen chuckled. He swiftly grabbed his bow and arrows, and fired into a few more cows. He managed to kill two. ¨Quite the good haul. We can use the hide for clothes and whatnot, the bones for makeshift knives, and soup, the meat for well...¨ he said, withdrawing a hunting knife from his belt. He began to skin the cow.

¨Yeah, same here.¨ Leon chuckled. ¨I´ll help you Maia.¨ he smiled, following her.

Maia nodded as she headed to the laundry area. She wrinkled her nose as the odor of soiled diapers wafted her way. Luckily, a large river flowing through the farm provided them with plenty of clean water.

A large pit had been dug for disposal of the soiid waste and dirty water.

The Human dragged what looked like a mattress cover from the pile. It was clearly a Utahraptor sized diaper. She grabbed the shovel off the rack and began the task of scraping the mess off the diaper before she washed them.

Redcrest was busy eating the cow's head. He made sure to keep the horns though. "I do hope Maia won't be too upset about me losing my diaper...again."

He rumbled in pleasure as he continued gnawing on the cow.

¨Let me help.¨ Leon smiled, grabbing a spare shovel. He began digging out the crusted in manure, nostrils wrinkling at the stench. He chucked the hardened turds into the pit. ¨So, any other chores we have to do today?¨ he asked his friend, smirking. He quickened his pace a bit, humming.

¨Eh, probably.¨ Jacen said, finishing up with his cows. He placed their meat into the color. The hide and bones he placed into his bag. ¨Let´s see if there´s any supplies around....once you´re done.¨ he said. ¨Maybe duct tape or something.¨ he started looking around the barn.

"I have to get firewood." Maia finished scraping off the ground-in Utahraptor dung. "But I also have to wash some more diapers. And repair Redcrest's diapers. I swear he rips at least one every day."

She shook her head as she dragged the diaper over to a steel watering trough filled with water and soap boiling over a fire.

Redcrest carefully placed the unfinished portions of his cow into the coolers. He polished off the gut piles.

He licked himself clean and chirped. The Utahraptor carefully pulled his dung-encrusted diaper from the fence post it had been snagged on and held it at a distance with one claw. "Eww."
