Rise of the Reptiles (Private)

After a few more minutes, the squirrels were done. ¨Alright!¨ Kara grinned. There were about sixty or so in total. Luckily, their little community wasn´t too large, a little over a hundred. She took a plate, and grabbed one for herself, and one for Maia. She smeared a bit of berry sauce on their plates. She dipped hers, and began nibbiling. ¨Here Mai, saved you one.¨ she put the plate next to the human.

Maia nodded as she took a seat at the table. She had washed her hands with the soap they had made using the fat from the cows and pigs they had hunted and any waste vegetable oil they had combined with the lye water they had made from leaching wood ashes. Some rosemary leaves added to it made it smell less disgusting.

She helped herself to some of the catfish and nibbled on it. She turned to Kara. "So, when did you start eating cooked food? Redcrest still likes his food raw."

The Human took a drink of her boiled water/berry syrup mix. She munched on a potato.

Meanwhile, an adult Compsognathus was trying to get a picky three-year old Human to eat his meal of plain, boiled catfish.

Kara shrugged, ¨I just feel it tastes, and smells better cooked, and a friend of mine gave me some awhile back.¨ she said. She broke off a bone, split it, and began slurping up what little marrow she coud

Maia had her second squirrel kebab with some potatoes and sauteed vegetable mix. "Ever go hunting with Redcrest and his crew, Kara?" She wiped her mouth with a cloth. "Anyways, you done for today or you still have some stuff to do?"

She looked at the torches that were now lighting up the settlement. Even at night, there were still some working at repairing assorted items or other tasks that kept the village running.

¨Yeah, a couple of times.¨ Kara said. She had been raised by some raiders, her mother and father had been one. She had gotten out early, and had been trying to atone for the past six years or so. ¨Well, I was thinking of doing some late night border patrol, then helping out at the forge.¨

Maia nodded as she sipped her glass of water. "I'm going to be harvesting some healing herbs for a bit and then I'll probably go to sleep."

She picked up her plate with the bones and inedible parts piled on it and dumped it in the compost bucket.

Two Macaws left a bucket of nutshells next to the compost bucket.

A young Velociraptor had his tail lowered as he tried to conceal his sagging diaper. Some of the children were pointing and laughing at the adult raptor who had soiled his diaper during dinner.

Maia noticed said disturbance. "Excuse me," she said to Kara as she made her way to the children.

She loudly cleared her throat. "Children," she said, her face one of disappointment. "We have gone over this before. What is the polite way to deal with this situation?"

¨Not mention it.¨ One of the kids, a young Parakeet said, as she looked down at the ground in shame. Kara stood up, and placed the remnants of her meal in the compost bin as well. Waving farewell to Maia, she went to do her patrol rounds.

"Exactly," Maia said. "Now I want you all to apologize to him."

Said raptor was in the nursery and busy changing his dirty diaper. Sure, it was embarrassing but it was more efficient thanks to his small size.

One by one, the gathered crowd emptied the remnants of their meals into the compost bin. Buckets of nutshells joined them as well. Luckily, the food waste was emptied into large pile in the farmlands the next day so the smell wasn't too bad.

The two kids apologized to the raptor, and ran off to play with their friends. The sound of irradiated insects chirping could be heard, couple with the occasional cough of one of the guards manning the walls.

Maia had a miner's headlamp with a small flame burning at the end that barely illuminated the distance in front of her. The forest she was in was within the village's walls but even if the most dangerous creatures here had already hunted, there was still the possibility of severe injury.

As it were, she moved slowly and methodically through the undergrowth. It was then she found her prize: a vine with golden flowers on it that glowed softly in the humid night air. She used her machete to cut a long coil and wrapped it around her arm. These were glow-vines, utterly invaluable for treatment of nearly all diseases.

Redcrest switched places with the Human who had rode his horse with them. The man unrolled a blanket and lay down on it, quickly falling asleep.

He chittered slightly as he kept an eye out for danger. His diaper was noticibly heavier than when he had went to sleep but he ignored it as he had a tendency to mess his diaper while asleep.
