That's what Tails really wanted to say but instead he sighed and found himself reluctantly walking over to them. This competition was way too close to his home. Sure it was on a hill and the trees were below but with Sonic and Knuckles it often didn't matter...

"Alright... Ready?" Tails asked, eyes half open with only mild interest. Sonic tapped his foot, irritated that he didn't have a comeback for what Knux said earlier about keeping count.

Knuckles was completely oblivious to the fact of how disinterested and fed up Tails was about the entire rise of rivalry between him and Sonic lately. The echidna cracked his knuckles and proceeded to do a few warm up stretches before getting on with it. He then crouched down at the nearest tree and grinned "Ready" He announced

"Go!"Tails belted out, managing to summon an emotion as he did so. Sonic stood back and watched Knuckles due his turn first. Surely he was strong but speed up as his fortay. It didn't matter how much Knux could take down. He could take down more.

Knuckles threw his fist at the first tree and exploded the trunk of it, causing it to fall victim to gravity and come crashing down. But just before it could hit the ground *CRACK!* went the second, then the third and fourth with more continuing to fall one after the other as he sprinted tree to tree with one powerful punch each taking them down.

This was almost a beloved hobby for Knuckles, something that was even therapeutic and something he often did in his boredom. He was sure he would win this as he gave it his all and downed a total number of 32 trees within the time limit.

Sonic looked on with his eyes lowered specifically for the sake of keeping himself from exhibiting any kind of sense that he might have been impressed. He wasn't but he wanted to really make sure no one watching would mistake his face for being impressed, even if it was just the three of them there. That's how much he gave a crap about looking cooler than Knuckles.

Tails just stared at the scene with his mouth hanging slightly open and his eyebrows flurried in a bit of a confused expression. It almost was like he didn't even know what to make of this outside of "That idiot is destroying a lot of trees around my home and I really don't get the point of it. Also, it's kind of rude."

At the end of the minute Knuckles huffed and panted, having broken a sweat in his exertion of power against the 32 innocent trees which were now scattered among the ground in random places. "Hahah! Just try to beat that, Sonic!" The red fighter bellowed, dusting off his mitts and looking oh so proud. In his mind he had the arrogant notion that the hedgehog would be rusty and would probably need to take extra time to aim his spin attacks. Was he misjudging Sonic? He of course didn't think so.

Sonic cracked his knuckles and smiled. "Alright. To be clear, I'm not pulling any punches so, whatever this turns out as, just know that you had the chance to walk away." Sonic said with a sneer before spinning super fast!

Tails barely had time to give the official word before Sonic blasted off. "GO!" Tails got out as soon as he saw Sonic nearing his first tree. And that first tree might as well have been his last as it was a clean buzzsaw shot from tree to tree as soon as he hit it and moved on smoothly through the long line in his way! A few seconds in and he had cleared away about 10.

Tails looked on and wondered if this was as good as, worse than, or better than what Knuckles did. Calculating it before the end result was the only small joy he had being the proprietor for these things. It gave his brain something to do.

Knuckles stood stoic with his arms folded across his puffed out chest as he watched the literal blue blur zipping and zooming through the area, cutting through tree after tree in his path in pretty rapid succession. "Hmmm..." The echidna started to look agitated at what he was seeing, while on the inside he tried to push back the pesky worries of actually failing the challenge he proposed!

The seconds went on by and time ticked on probably very slowly for Knuckles as he looked on. Then the climax happened with the minute drawing to a close.

Sonic landed on his feet, standing right beside the Knuckle-head with his hands pressed against his head to steady himself. "Whoo! Now that was a wild ride. Seems the fastest thing alive could double as quite the lumberjack if he so desired eh Knuckles?"

Tails looked over at the destruction before him. The landscape was warped. He hated it. It made his eye twitch.

"So? WHO WON?!" Sonic blurted at the fox, his now annoying voice ringing in his ear.

With a grumble, Tails revealed the winner. "... Knuckles took down 32... Sonic, you scrapped by with 34..."

"AH-HA! HAHAHAHAHA!" Sonic laughed and pointed at the echidna.

"Grrrr, get your hands off my head, you spiky rat!" Knuckles batted Sonic's arms and took a hefty step back away from the hedgehog. He snorted as he looked out over the portion of forest he just witnessed him wreak total havoc on, his thoughts being that it looked close as he tried to count them.
But his count came to a stunning end once he heard the fox give his tally before he could finish.

"What?!" He balled his fists up and just looked purely outraged at the announcement, and especially ticked and red in the face by Sonic's gloating "That's bullshit! Tails is just on your side." Knuckles shoved past Sonic and went to start counting the trees for himself, being an all around sore loser.
