Frustrated, angry, anxious, and confused, Neily squirmed sullenly on his changing pad, and watched, as a now very cross Miss Smach, searched for, and removed, a variety of items from the hated diaper bag, which had now been placed beside him. Pouting, he protruded his lower lip, and in hopes of justifying his naughty word, told his nanny a little lie, or at best a half truth. "B-B-But Befthy, mama say dat word awot.... She... she... she... de one dat teach it to me....", he fibbed worriedly. Then before she could respond, and in a true attempt to understand what had happened, he asked shamefully, "Nana, I know you wan' me to 'till wear a diadee cause I 'till havin' accidens, but why when I telled you I had to go potty you not take me, an' wet me mess? I no wiked dat...."

Bethany sighed, irritated. "I know your mama might say that sometimes, but there are some words that aren't okay for little boys and girls to use. That's one of those nasty words, and if I hear you say it again I'll have to punish you." she explained. Upon hearing Neily's question, however, her anger decreased somewhat. "Neil, honey, I don't know if you'd understand right now. But... I think you're not ready to start using the potty yet. It doesn't make you a baby, it just means you're learning at your own pace." she reassured.

As she spoke, she was unpinning the plastic pants and then the diaper, wiping up the toddler with a gentle hand.

Promise me you'll watch the Sia, Martha Wainwright, and Norah Jones videos I linked you to. I'd like to know what you thought.}

Relieved over being told that he was not going to be punished this time... Neily lay back on his soft, and comfy changing pad, and while blushing with embarassment, tried not to watch as Nanny Smach thoroughly, but tenderly got him wiped off, and changed. As he layed there, the sweet, but naughty four year old found himself full of mixed emotions. Overall, it had been a long, and very difficult day for little Neil, and more than likely his nana as well.... He knew he loved "Miss Befthy"... wholly, and unconditionally, of that he had no doubt. Silently, and guiltily, he thought, "I wuv Miss Smach... pwobabwy eben more dan mama.... Is dat bad?" Yet despite how much he loved her, he was having a hard time accepting both how attentive she was, as well as the level of stucture, rules, and strict discipline she now so firmly insisted he abide by.

Neily waited patiently until Nanny had finished sliding a clean pair of crinkly, plastic, panties over his fluffy, new, diadee. Desperate for reassurance, he held his arms out to her, and then snuggled anxiously against her as she picked him up. Burying his head in her chest, he started to sob, and shuddered, "Miss Befthy, I sowwy I say bad word.... I not know.... Nana, I cofused. If you say I not awwowed to use de potty no more, den what I 'upposed to do when I gotta make? Mama buyed me dat potty you know.... She got it on way away at Wah Mart where she work. She sayed it was 'pensive...." Hugging her then, he looked up into her soft, concerned, brown, eyes, and waited to see what she would say....

(Yes, that would be me. I'm in one of the other videos there as well. I watched the videos you sent me, and all of the songs are beautiful. 'Breathe Me' is a personal favorite, as is the Rufus Wainwright song 'Hallelujah', so I was glad to see we have yet another thing in common.)

Bethany sighed softly as she cuddled Neil. It had been a long day, and this was only the first of possible years to come with her Neily. She rubbed the poor baby's back in soothing circles. "Oh, Neily, sweetheart... for now, you're just going to have to get used to using those diadees, honey. You won't be using the potty again for a long time." she told Neil, in the most comforting tone she could muster. It was high time for dinner, and then a warm cup of milk and bed.

As Nanny confirmed what he had sadly expected to hear, A single, large, teardrop rolled slowly from the corner of his eye, and finally came to rest, dangling noticeably on the tip of his tiny nose. Softly nodding "YES" against her chest, the "sweet" side of Neil clearly communicated to Bethy that he understood that she had decided that from now on he would no longer be given the privelege of using the potty, and that he was simply going to have to make do with going pee pee, and poopie in his diadee instead! Yet even as he did this, Neily's "naughty" side had already come up with two different ways by which to frustrate this fate. Then hugging Miss Smach tightly, he allowed her to carry him off to dinner, and decided to wait until tomorrow to give his first idea a try....

Bethany resumed her soft humming as Neily nodded, continuing to rub at his back even as she picked him up. The young woman carried her charge down to the kitchen, sitting him in a chair and handing him a spill-proof cup full of milk. She stirred the sauce once more before smiling widely. "Bellissimo!" she exclaimed, ladling up a portion of pasta and sauce for her Neil. She set it down in front of him with a child's fork, cautioning "It's hot, sweetie. Let it cool down a bit before you eat it or touch it."

Squirming playfully in his booster seat, Neily suckled from his little, sippy cup, and watched as Bethany put the final touches on their dinner. As he did so, he thought more about the naughty plans he'd made to avoid his diadees, or even worse having to make his poopie in them.... Originally he had planned that tomorrow, he would simply hide his hated, diaper bag, and in so doing give Nanny no other alternative than to allow him to wear his big boy clothes, and permit him to use his potty. As he thought more about his plans however, he came to the conclusion that even though he would hide his hated, diaper bag first, he would even now put his second idea into action. Reasoning magically, but illogically, like any typical four year old, Neily decided that rather than run the risk of the embarassment of going poo poo in his crinkly, plastic panties, he simply wouldn't go poopie at all. No indeed... from now on, naughty Neil was going to hold it!

The little boy's thoughts were interrupted, when all of a sudden he heard his nanny cheerfully exclaim, "Bellissimo!". Her excitement was infectious, and as he began to giggle, he clapped his hands, and said, "Miss Befthy, dat a funny word. I neber heard dat 'efore, what it mean?" Smiling, Nanny had answered his question, while at the same time she placed a bowl of spaghetti in front of him, and warned him to let it cool down before he began to eat. Doing as he'd been told, he sat there patiently, and watched, as Miss Smach sat down across from him, and regarded him with a warm and loving look. Blushing now, Neily looked away, and while blowing on his bowl to cool it, said in a shy, and timid, little voice, "Mmm, I wuvs pasghetti.... Dat smell yummy. Nana, Whats we gonna do afta we has dinna? I always watch T.V. till I falls asweep, an' mama say it not till it weally, weally, wate too.... Wanna watch wif me, Miss Befthany?"

Bethany laughed as Neil asked her about her use of the word. "It's Italian, sweetie! It means something along the lines of 'beautiful'." she explained. As Neil commented on her cooking and explained his plan for after dinner, she smiled and shook her head slightly. "I think that after dinner, somebody needs a bath. Then it'll be bedtime."

"BA...WEE...SEE...MOE", Neily repeated slowly, as with his little face scrunched up, he struggled to comprehend the meaning of the foriegn word that Nana was trying to teach him. He loved the way his former nursery school teacher, now turned nanny, always tried to patiently teach him things... She was really smart! A devil to be sure, Neil was a smart little boy himself, and as he quickly mastered the concept, his face practically lit up. He ate some of his spaghetti, and then while smiling proudly, looked up and said, "Mmm... Dis weally good! Know what Miss Smach? I tink I unnerstan'.... It wike Snow White, cause you de most BA...WEE...SEE...MOE nana of dem all. Wight?"

Not answering him immediately, Nanny chose instead to explain his new after dinner, and evening routine, which from now on, he was told, he was absolutely going to be expected to follow! Shocked by what he heard, little Neily's eyes grew large as saucers, as horrified, he whined, "Miss Befthy, nooooo.... I wike my bafthy's, I take one of dose, but I no wanna have a bedtime. 'Esides it too earwy fer nigh-night. It not eben dark yet. It 'till wight out.... Mama wet me go beddy-bye when I wan'...."

"Very good pronunciation, honey. You said that very well." said Bethany, but frowned slightly. "Now, now, no more arguments. You need your rest if you want to grow up big and strong!" she explained. "Your pasta should be cool enough to eat by now, Neily."
