"panties Kirstie? you mean as in 'big girl panties?" Julie asked, halfway teasingly.

"well, the only 'big girl panties' we have amongst us are the one's mommy has on, and she's not about to give those up sweetie!" Julie said, tickling her little one.

"the only panties you'll have the rest of the day are the little baby panties mommy put you in before bringing you back out to join Katie!" she said, patting her little girl's plastic padded bottom emitting that audible crinkle sound which could be heard by Katie.

Julie had sensed that Katie was visually challenged and seemed not to have any ambulatory dexterity from the waist down. Julie wasn't the kind of woman who would draw attention to that nor make an issue over it, but it helped Kirstie's mommy to better understand the little girl's status and allowed Julie to adjust accordingly.

"i'd love to Katie! just a second. be right back with something to feed you with sweetie!" Julie stepped away and approached one of the orphanage's caretakers.

"excuse me Ma'am, but that little girl over in the playpen is hungry and wants some food. could you give me something i can feed her with?" she asked, politely.

"it's almost my going home time miss, but if you insist i'll get you a bottle you can feed her with. that's pretty much her limit anyway." she responded, in a rather dry tone of voice.

"i think anything with nutrient would be better than nothing at all. she's a hungry little girl!" Julie answered, imbuing a caring spirit in this matter-of-fact conversation.

Julie could see the appalling nature of the state run orphanage. uncaring, cold, unfeeling, insensitive to the needs of little ones who sorely needed gentle loving care, concern, and maternal love of those who sought to share and give freely of it.

Julie returned with a warmed baby bottle of infant formula. she had a smile on her face as she approached Katie's playpen because this gave her a reason to take the little girl in the warmth and gentleness of her arms and give Katie a proper bottle feeding.

"yummy!" Julie said, leaning over the edge of the playpen, lifting the little girl out to hold her in her lap. she included her Kirstie as well, placing her on the other side so the two balanced one another.

"two babies in this mommy's lap!" Julie exclaimed, already feeling the maternal pride and joy of caring and nurturing. she was going to enjoy this time together with the little girl and her daughter together.

she touched the nipple to Katie's mouth which prompted the little girl to begin suckling.

Katie was a little suprised when she picked her up,but she said "Thank you." Before drinking from the bottle. It wasn't anything new to her,for about 3 years this was almost all they fed her anyways. Before then,there was a very nice caretaker that would take care of her and comfort her when another family abandoned her,but she had gone to the hospital thanks to cancer several years ago.

Kirstie cuddled into her mother lap holding Katies hand and strocking it with her thumb to comfort her, with her other hand she was sucking her thumb.

Miss Julie thought that little Katie was a little cutie. her heart went out to the little one's beleaguered situation. she had thought to herself, "this little girl has no future here. she's been denied the joy and happiness all little girls are entitled to and deserving of. she's never had the chance to even feel pretty...a woman's birthright, even a 'little woman's right to have in the case of Katie.

every little person in the world has human rights, little people as well are entitled as such, Kirstie as well as Katie. she entertained the thought of taking Katie home for a week or two as a trial run to see how the two girls would interact socially together as a family. good families weren't dictatorial settings, good families also were not 'dependent' structures either.

there was a huge difference between 'dependency' and 'inter-dependency. the former relied on the denial of 'self will' and the use of force and intimidation. the latter kept the human will, self dignity and self respect intact for everyone. that's what Julie was striving for in her family structure. Julie always strove to be a responsible mother, never using punishment nor fear of punishment as a means to correct or remedy faulty behavior. love, gentleness, and loving kindness and equality was at the center of her heart.

"how would you two girls like to spend the week together at our house?" she asked the two. the decision had to be equally theirs as much as it was Julie's.
