Hey I know this one.
Its because of union wanting more money from the plants in the 1950-70's, so they offer a high paying retirement plan and pension. That stopped the strikes for GM, which was the bigest of the big 3 custom automanufactorers. Latter on they paided what they promised this led to government bailouts. Thanks to these bailouts GM got too big and BUSH didn't bail them out, so this is why they are in this state.

BAIL OUT= raise in taxes and tax rates= less food for us in theory.
