Stannis Baratheon had intended for his brother Renly Baratheon to perish before their forces could battle at Storm's End. Alas, Lady Melisandre's shadow assassin had failed to kill the younger Baratheon brother. As a result, Stannis' forces faced a crushing defeat the following day.

In the aftermath of the battle, Renly had decided to agree to ally with the North. In light of his brother's treachery, he had concluded that he would need every ally he could muster. Needless to say, Lady Catelyn Stark was delighted that Renly had finally listened to reason.

A couple months later, Robb Stark and Renly Baratheon's combined forces laid siege to King's Landing. It was a long and difficult siege, and many good men gave their lives. In the end, however, the victory went to the Northmen and the Reachmen. The Lannisters were captured, and Sansa Stark was freed from her captivity.

But the war was not yet over. Tywin Lannister and his forces were still wreaking havoc across the Riverlands. As such, Robb and Renly set out to meet the Old Lion and put an end to him. The women were left back in King's Landing to keep the peace.

For Sansa Stark, being freed from the torment to which Joffrey and Cersei had subjected her was simply overwhelming. The gallant and dashing Renly was now king, and Sansa greatly admired him, even if she herself would no longer have the opportunity to be queen. And the new Queen Margaery was sister to the Knight of Flowers himself! Sansa hoped the new queen would be kind to her, and that she would be able to get in the queen's good graces, and perhaps have chance to wed Ser Loras.

In the meantime, she prayed to the old gods for her brother Robb's safety. Their time together at King's Landing had been too brief. And she prayed for Arya's safe return, wherever her wayward sister was.

Sansa sat on a bench in the gardens of the Red Keep and wept.

(Okay, I'll be Margaery then)

Margaery had just come from the throne room of the Red Keep. It was a lovely day outside, so she thought about taking a walk through the gardens herself. She brought along Brienne Tarth, one of her husband's Rainbow Guard, for protection.

While she was walking through the gardens, she noticed Sansa Stark was sitting by herself, crying. Concerned for the younger girl, Margaery went over to Sansa and asked her gently "Are you alright, my dear? Is something the matter?" She knew of the torment Sansa had suffered at the hands of the Lannisters, and she hoped to help her recover from that ordeal.

Sansa looked up, quite surprised to see it was the new queen herself who had addressed her. Composing herself as best she could, she quickly dried her eyes and stood and curtseyed to Margaery. "Forgive me, your Grace," she said. "I... I was just concerned for my brother. And for his Grace, your husband as well, of course. H-How may I be of service, your Grace?"

Margaery gently placed a finger on Sansa's lips and shushed her. "It is I who should be asking you that. A queen is meant to look out for her subjects. Not the other way around. Besides, since your brother and my husband are now allies, I don't you to think of yourself as just my subject. I would like us to be friends, as well." Secretly, Margaery was hoping to be MORE than friends with Sansa, but she did not want to force the younger girl into anything. The poor sweet girl had already been through enough trauma. "Now tell me; what ails you?"

"Th-Thank you, your Grace," Sansa said softly. "I-I would like to us be friends too. The L-Lannisters, Cersei and Joffrey, tormented me ceaselessly. Joffrey executed my father and forced me to view... well, I shan't trouble your Grace with the details. They are gone now, and you are the queen, and a most beautiful and elegant one, if I may speak plainly, your Grace." Margaery was indeed beautiful, Sansa thought. Perhaps even beyond beautiful... her smile was so soothing and infectious.

Margaery blushed a little at the Northern girl's praise. "Well, thank you, Sansa. If I may return the compliment, you are very beautiful yourself. So please, do not cry anymore. I would hate for any more tears to ruin that lovely face." She then removed a handkerchief and used it to dry Sansa's eyes. Then she put it away and told her "What you need is a way to calm down and alleviate stress. Would you please accompany me for a minute?"

Sansa blushed a little when Margaery dried her eyes. The queen had an amazingly gentle touch, unlike anything Sansa had ever felt before.

"Of course, your Grace," she replied, intrigued by the queen's request. Sansa was used to simple things like reading and sewing when it came to stress relief. Something they were effective and sometimes not. She wondered what Margaery had in mind.

Margaery took Sansa's hand in hers, and she led the younger girl back into the Red Keep. They quickly made their way to the Maidenvault. Brienne of Tarth followed the two women silently, keeping an eye out for any sign of danger towards either of them.

Before long, they reached the queen's personal quarters. Once they got there, Margaery turned to the tall blond female knight and instructed her "Please wait outside, Brienne." The heiress to Evenfall Hall nodded, saying "Aye, Your Grace." Margaery then pulled Sansa into her bedchamber, shutting and locking the door behind them.

Sansa was quite surprised and actually rather excited, if a little confused, when Margaery led her to the queen’s private royal suite. Sansa had grown used to the lavish comforts of the Red Keep but the queen’s room was lovely and luxurious beyond anything even Sansa might have imagined.

“Th-These are your own royal quarters, your Grace,” Sansa said shyly. As much as she wanted the new queen’s friendship, it didn’t seem right to ignore proper formalities. “I am honored and grateful to be your personal guest.”
