Cynthia's Baby Dragon - Pokemon rp with Greatergood
Cynthia, champion of the Sinnoh region and one of the strongest trainers in the entire world, steps off of her faithful Garchomp as it lands in the streets of Opelucid City in Unova. After stepping off her pokemon and returning it back to its ball, she glances up with a smile at the gorgeous building in front of her. A large structure of three pyramids with a few giant dragon statues.
The Sinnoh champion had decided to take a vacation with a tour around the Unova region. Since she'd never been there before and wasn't as well known around these parts she was looking forward to peacefully enjoying the new sights and experiences, but she'd opted to have her first stop the region's dragon gym in order to meet and chat with Drayden the gym leader. She was always eager to meet and discuss things with other trainers that specialized in dragon pokemon. Honestly, a part of her was considering challenging him to a battle to see his famous Haxorus in action. Walking through the front doors she looks around in awe, loving the decor. She had corresponded with Drayden a little before this visit and was anxious to meet him in person. She also remembered him mentioning something about a young protegee of his that Cynthia was hoping to meet. What was her name? Oh Iris! He'd said she had a lot of potential and was actually getting ready to challenge the Unova region.

Iris sits atop her suitcase, throwing a pokeball up and down in her hand. With axew off doing... whatever Drayden wanted to do with him, she was far more prone to getting bored. As much as she loved him, he definitely wasn't ready for the journey the dark-skinned woman was looking to take. After enough time had passed, she gets up and drags her suitcase all the way to the front of the gym.
"Draydennnnn!" She whines, "I thought we were gonna go down to the station already?"
She suddenly tilts her entire body to the side, leaning in to see who exactly her mentor is talking to.
"Who's this?" Iris asks, "Look, lady, I don't know who you think you are, but you're causing an awful lot of a holdup for somebody outside of the Unova league!"

Drayden had greeted Cynthia in the foyer of the gym, and the two of them had sat on one of the convenient tables in that space where they were sharing some cups of tea. They started discussing dragon pokemon, but the conversation had quickly shifted and gotten a bit stretched out more than either of them had anticipated. Upon hearing the sound of Iris' approach, they both turn. Cynthia perking up a bit as she can't help but find the plucky young lady adorable. Honestly, even more so when she hears her little greeting. The girl's spunk and attitude had a certain charm to it.
"Now Iris," Drayden stands up and crosses his arms. "I understand you're anxious to get your journey started but that's no reason to be rude."
"Oh it's fine, Drayden," Cynthia says, also standing. "I didn't realize I was holding things up. Hello, sweetie, I'm Cynthia. It's a pleasure to meet you. Drayden's told me so much about his protegee," she smiles and holds out her hand to Iris. "He also mentioned how you're getting ready to challenge the Unova region. That must be so exciting for you. I remember my first journey and it was quite an experience."

"Uh huuuuuuuhhhhhh," Iris replies to the strange woman in front of her, rolling her eyes, "Look, I don't know who you're fooling, but I'm not some dumb kid. I'm twenty, and I've been studying under one of the best trainers in the region!"
Iris crosses her arms in a vain attempt to look even an iota as threatening as Drayden does when he does it. It's very clear that the younger woman is tired of getting talked down to.
"So, why don't get out of the way while Drayden," Iris gently nudges his hip with her elbow, "And I get going? Sound good?"

Drayden sighs and shakes his head, clearly embarrassed by his student's display. Cynthia for her part, keeps on smiling as she's growing increasingly amused by this girl. Partially, because in their discussions Drayden had made it very clear that Iris had only just turned 18, and while Cynthia could acknowledge her demeanor had been a touch condescending she was also finding herself increasingly amused by the spunky girl....enough to want to see how she reacts to a little more needling.
"Really? I could have sworn Drayden said you were 18, though even that seems a bit older than I would have guessed," Cynthia says crossing her arms. "I have to say, dear, lying about one's age doesn't exactly scream maturity...or that someone is ready to take on something as big as challenging a region..." Cynthia says, her smile increasingly playful. Drayden raises an eyebrow. On the one hand, he can hazard a guess what Cynthia is trying to do, but on the other hand he'd been thinking himself that Iris could do to be brought down a peg or two before she sets out on her own.

"Dray-dennnnnn!" Iris whines, looking up at him when it's made clear that her ruse had been broken before looking back at the stranger, "You really want to challenge me? I've been honing my craft for two entire years!"
Iris's hand dive into her pocket and retrieve an ultraball, which she quickly slams onto the ground. A Zweilous emerges, dragging one of its talons against the ornate gym floor, raring to go.
"One pokemon, one winner!" Iris shouts, "Right here, right now!"

Cynthia raises an eyebrow, while Drayden straightens up and narrows his eyes.
"Now just a moment here...." He starts to say, but Cynthia cuts him off.
"I accept," she says calmly, not losing her playful smile.
Drayden glances at her, giving a look that seems to say: "Are you sure you want to do this?" Cynthia replies to this look with a knowing wink. Drayden shakes his head and shrugs, before turning to his student.
"Well if Cynthia agrees then fine," He says, and points at the gym's inner door. "But you know the rules Iris. All battles are to only take place in the main arena!" He says sternly.
Soon the three of them are standing in battlefield area of the gym. Drayden stands in the judge's box, while Iris is on his left and Cynthia his right. Iris still has her Zweilous out, but Cynthia is still just holding her pokeball.
"Say, Iris," Cynthia says, glancing up. "What would you say to a little wager? Let's say, the winner gets to ask something of the the loser and they have to agree no matter what it is. Deal?" She asks, still maintaining her smile. Drayden raises an eyebrow and turns to Iris. He has a pretty good idea what Cynthia is going to suggest, and has mixed feelings about how he wants his apprentice to respond.

Cynthia... Iris had never seen a picture of Sinnoh's champion before, but... just the mere mention of the name by Drayden made her gulp a little bit. She very clearly didn't know what she was getting herself into... But that grin. It bothers Iris. She lets the bubble of air back out of her mouth, before grinning back... only to frown immediately as Drayden chastises her.
"Come onnnn, it'll be over in a minute," Iris grumbles, before waving her Zweilous into the other room. She takes a defiant stance in front of 'Cynthia', letting loose a wicked grin.
"You've got a deal!" Iris says, "And, if you are who I think you are, I'm getting myself a high-level dragon type!"

Cynthia can't help but chuckle, while Drayden shakes his head again,
"Oh you are just adorable," Cynthia says, as she tosses her pokeball up in the air. "Come out Garchomp!" She shouts, the ball opens and in a flash it reveals the massive dragon. It lets out a roar and takes a battle stance.
"This one on one battle will now begin!" Drayden says raising his arms.
Cynthia's expression becomes more focused, but she doesn't say anything, clearly waiting for Iris to make the first move. Garchomp is also holding position, obviously she's reading her trainer's attitude.

"Oh YEAH!" Iris says, looking over Garchomp, "Say hello to your new trainer, little guy!"
Iris knows she has to keep her confidence up if she even wants a chance at winning. The risk of losing her edge and accepting defeat before it happened was too great to take. Recklessly, she goes for the first trick in the dragon-trainer's book: dragon types are weak to dragon moves.
"Sorry for the hurt Zweilous is about to bring," Iris says, before shooting a look at Zweilous, "Use dragon breath! Now!"
Speed is of the essence. While Garchomp was by no means a small pokemon, they tended to be skinny and agile. This comes with its own disadvantages, however. If Iris had taken a moment to consider, she would have prioritized drawing out the fight durability, instead of trying to use it to outclass Garchomp at its own game: Speed.
